I Think, Therefore I Blog PDF Print E-mail
Written by the Editor

ImageI think, therefore I blog. I blog, and therefore I kill people. I kill people because no one cares what I think.

That's the basic premise of this Dentyne animated short, which I shouldn't find funny seeing as I'm posting this on the Editor's Blog. This short is part of Dentyne's Making Face Time ad campaign which I think is pretty clever and makes me a little emotional. It makes me teary because the point of the campaign is to remind everyone to take breaks from technology and spend more time together in real life, and I am the poster child for not doing that.

Why have a real life when I can hide behind technology? I have a website on which I blog. I remember when it was funny that Barney on "How I Met Your Mother" had a blog. Now it seems like everyone has a blog except people that I wish had one.I don't think I say anything particularly interesting, but people enjoy it and I don't have to actually talk to them.

I have a Facebook page that I constantly update and that I use to secretly stalk people. Has she changed her status update?  Does he have pictures of a girlfriend on his site? Why is my co-worker uploading a new photo in the middle of the day?

You don't exist if you're not on Facebook.  I have actually searched for people on Facebook and decided that "0 Results Found" meant they were dead. I mourned my college roommate Ingrid Vogelfanger and summer school hook-upTopher Ruegg. Of course, the problem with Facebook is that you do exist; judging from the amount of people I knew from high school who Facebook me, one would think I was actually popular.  I spend so much time on Facebook that I created Friends lists so I can talk freely about the others. I mean, no I don't do that. But I could do that.

I have two Twitter accounts. Am I narcissist? No, I'm a voyeur. Well, I may be a narcissist, but it has nothing to do with Twitter.  I occasionally update my personal one, but mainly I just follow people. I'm not even sure why. Some of them are clients (I do have a work life outside of IndustryNexus, which of course is on Twitter )  and some I just follow because… well, I don't know. Because I feel like Twitter is a necessary evil.  I honestly don't care what most of these people think or say. Nevertheless, if they say something interesting, I want to be the first to know.

And yet of course my opinion matters. (Just ask my co-workers, who wouldn't agree that  my opinion matters per se, but they'd certainly agree that I think what I think matters.)  So my blog is my outlet. It's not that I necessarily care that you read it, but typing it out and posting it allows the possibility that others may read it and share my pain.

Or,not.

Pass the Dentyne.

About the Editor

I spent (too) many years working as an assistant and am now familiar with every single job title in Hollywood.

Despite what you’ve heard, I was a good assistant, well known for yelling at bosses, stealing food out of conference rooms, having long-winded conversations while on mute, and helping other assistants cover their asses. One screw up no one discovered was the time I set up a huge client meeting only to realize that I forgot to tell the client.

I have a master’s degree in Media Studies from Syracuse University which is totally worthless, but useful in holding over people’s heads. In real life I'm a freelance writer covering television and new media, and a content writer/content manager at a company that creates and manages celebrity websites.

Despite my sarcasm and overall bad attitude, I'm a very nice person. Email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
