The Insulted & The Injured - Chapter 3g: The client phone call PDF Print E-mail
Written by The Anonymous Assistant

I was used to getting yelled at by him.  I didn't like it, but I was getting used to it. But what I really didn't like was when he did it in front of people, especially clients. One day we were not getting along very well and he was on the phone with a Writer Client. Writer Client is married to Older Actress Client, so it was like a double whammy to me. While Asshole Midget was in the middle of a conversation with Writer Client, I dropped something into his in-box, and he proceeded to halt his conversation with Writer Client so that he could yell at me. I stopped, turned around, and looked at him.

"You can yell at me when you get off the phone," I said.

He looked at me incredulously. I turned around and walked back to my office. I put my headset on and muted the phone (I wanted to hear his remaining conversation with Writer Client - assistants are allowed to listen in, for those of you unfamiliar with the entertainment world.)

Writer Client said something to Asshole Midget that I missed.

"Yeah, but she is a giant pain in the ass," was Asshole Midget's response.

"Well I worship the ground she walks on," was Writer Client's response.

I smiled.

“You shouldn’t.”

Sigh.

I dedicate this book to everyone who has ever been an assistant in the world of entertainment, especially those who have been emotionally and/or physically abused by their boss. The tone of this is semi-humorous, but I know, and many others know, the deep psychological wounds that can be incured during this time. You are not alone.
