Screaming Fit #3

Famous Actress's movie will be at the Berlin Film Festival. Unfortunately she is in the middle of a demanding shoot (for a role that will later win her an Academy Award). She isn't too keen on the idea of picking up to go to Berlin to promote a movie that she a.) doesn't think is very good, and b.) is an ensemble film that doesn't really require her presence anyway. But Asshole Midget really wants her to go. "International recognition," he says. "Free trip to Berlin" is what I hear.

Producer on Demanding Shoot calls for Asshole Midget. "Does Famous Actress really have to go to this?"

"Yes she does," says Asshole Midget.

Next day, Famous Actress calls for me. "I am not going to Berlin. And if Asshole Midget keeps pushing this on me I am going to get really pissed off."

I say, "Uh...do you want to tell him that yourself?"

"No, I don't want to talk about this with him again. Just let him know that he should not bring this up to me again. I am not going."

Rock and a Hard Place. I know that Asshole Midget doesn't want to hear this from me. However, Famous Actress clearly doesn't want to talk to him directly about it. I don't want to stir up trouble between Asshole Midget and Famous Actress - right? Basically, I'm screwed if I bring this up to him and I'm screwed if I don't. Might as well just tell him what I know, so if he wants to yell, he can yell, but at least he knows.

Well, he yelled. But what I didn't expect was, "What did you say to her? And don't lie to me."

I dedicate this book to everyone who has ever been an assistant in the world of entertainment, especially those who have been emotionally and/or physically abused by their boss. The tone of this is semi-humorous, but I know, and many others know, the deep psychological wounds that can be incured during this time. You are not alone.
