The agent of Famous Actress found a script that she really liked. It would be the first feature film for Famous Actress after the success of the television drama. The director was interested in Famous Actress for Role X. The problem is that the director was a first timer and there was no money. Agent sent script to Famous Actress and to Asshole Midget to read over the weekend. He gave it to me to read. "You read the script. I'm sure it sucks."
Well, it didn't suck. It was actually very good and if they got a really good ensemble cast for it, they could take the risk on a first time director. After all, if the film didn't do well, it wouldn't be Famous Actress's fault. I gave Asshole Midget a quick run-down of the plot and said to him, "But I don't think Famous Actress is going to want to play Role X. I bet she is going to want to do Role Y." I told him why. He took note, but didn't really care about the project. There wasn't any money involved. Then Famous Actress called. She really liked the script. But she was more interested in Role Y than Role X - would the director meet her for that instead? "That is what I thought you would say," says Asshole Midget. And he gave her my reasoning why - claiming it as his own. He still hadn't even read it. But I was ok with that, after all, that is partly my job as an assistant. And personally I was delighted that I knew her sensibility enough to be even be right. The film was not a huge success, but they got an incredible cast for it and she got rave reviews. Asshole Midget claimed that he had "found" the script for her and "put her" in the film. He didn't read the script unti lshe started shooting it.
