I should tell some of the good times too. Although they were becoming few and far between. But we did get along sometimes. Actually, The Birthday Party was very indicative of what our relationship was like. Asshole Midget is one of those types that wants to have his birthday paid attention to, but is embarrassed y any attention that he can't control. That was ok with me. I was so happy to be off his desk and Assistant After Me was so happy to just be working for him (she'd learn, quickly) so she baked him a cake and I got him a great gift. That evening I walked sown to his office from my new, wonderful office and announced, "Asshole Midget, we are going to celebrate your birthday now." Of course he said no. But that didn't deterr me, I knew he wanted it acknowledged. I told Assistant After Me to go do her thing (get the cake) but she hesitated and he began to throw a temper tantrum about how much work he had to do. I just laughed at him and put his gift on his desk. "Just fifteen minutes. You can aoffrd fifteen minutes." And I told the Assistant After Me to go (get the cake.) Typically, the tantrum continued. "Do not get off that couch," he says to her. She looks a little frightened and looks at me questioningly. "Go," I repeat to her. "She'll be right back," I say to him. "Open your gift." Well he loved his gift and he loved the cake. Others came down to have cake with us including The One in the Closet. He looked shocked. Actually I think a lot of executives were shocked to see he and I celebrating his birthday. But I wanted to turn over a new leaf. We'd gotten along before; we could again. And now that I didn't have to work forhim as his assistant, it would be different, right? Wrong.
