I couldn’t even tell you what the fight was about. I honestly don’t remember, that is how insignificant it was to me. But he went on a tirade. I remember getting up from that fucking leather couch while he was screaming at me and calmly walking back to my desk. He follows me screaming.

“That’s it. I’m finding someone else.”

“Fine.”

The next day he tells me that he’s called a few people and that they will be calling me to set up a time to come in and meet with him.

“Fine.”

The only one I remember coming in was a guy we’ll call Adam. I greeted him in the lobby, offered him something to drink, the whole bit. It’s a long meeting; they go to dinner later.

The next morning Asshole Midget comes into the office and says to me, “This is the guy I’m hiring. I want you to take him to lunch and explain how the office works.”

Weird, but ok.

I go to lunch with Adam, and this guy is so skeptical of Asshole Midget. It seems that this lunch thing was his idea. What he really wants is the inside scoop about working for Asshole Midget.

“Why are you leaving?” He asks.

“The Asshole Midget fired me.”

“What? But you guys seem to get along so well; he seems to like you. I mean, he said he had some problems with you but I didn’t realize that he had FIRED you.”

“Yes.”

Back to the office. I hand Asshole Midget my receipt from lunch. “I’d like to be reimbursed please.” He pays me.

“So do you like him?” he asks me.

“Yes I do. He’s very calm. Very different from me.”

“Yeah,” he laughs in a friendly way. “That’s why I want to hire him.”

Next day Adam calls for Asshole Midget. He isn’t ready to leave his present job, but thank you very much for the opportunity.

My being fired doesn’t come up again. Yet.
